Description of Services:	Infection Control in Institutions Inspects of group housing facilities to ensure infection control programs are in place including day care centres, homes for the aged, hospitals and nursing homes Annually inspects boarding houses, migrant housing and residential facilities for the aged and those requiring special care Provides input for infection control committees and programs within institutions Reports on and advises about management of communicable disease outbreaks from hospitals and outpatient clinics Ensures infection control policies are practised in places where a risk of blood exists including body-piercing and tattoo parlours, hairdresser and barber shops, electrolysis and aesthetic clinics Partners with: Infection Control Committees Northwestern Ontario Regional Infection Control Committee (RICC) Northwestern Ontario Regional Infection Control Network (RICN) Ontario Core Competencies Working Group: Infection Prevention and Control Ontario Pandemic Flu Planning Committee Lyme Disease Provides a lyme disease surveillance program to detect incidence of disease Assesses and tests ticks found on humans to determine risk exposure Rabies Control Investigates every animal bite with human exposure within 18 hours Ensures suspect animals are confined Releases the post exposure prophylaxis vaccine to health provider for administration to individuals exposed to a suspected rabid animal West Nile Virus Provides information and education to increase public awareness Focuses on protective measures for individuals to limit risk factors Provides mosquito and human surveillance
